Lieutenant Walter Bertram Wood was a World War I flying ace credited with thirteen aerial victories.Wood began serving England in an unusual way; he was a Boy Scout coast watcher until he was old enough to enlist in the army. He then joined the Hampshire Regiment and went through the Officers Training Corps of the Artists Rifles. He was commissioned a second lieutenant on 4 June 1916, before being seconded to the Royal Flying Corps on 3 March 1917. He was promptly assigned to 29 Squadron.
