She was once reduced to helpless laughter when a deaf elderly admiral, mistaking her polite inquiry about the health of his sister for an interest in his ship responded; I am going to have her turned over, take a good look at her bottom and have it scraped . Home life too was full of fun. Grandma laughed until she was red in the face, just the way you do , wrote one of Queen Victoria's grand-daughters to her mother after an entertaining evening at Windsor. The Queen shared a passionate relationship with Prince Albert, noting in her diary after her wedding: When day dawned (for we did not sleep much) and I beheld that beautiful angelic face by my side, it was more than I can express! He does look so beautiful in his shirt only, with his beautiful throat . With anecdotes, quotations and fascinating insights, this book celebrates the amusing, quirky and unexpected aspects of Queen Victoria's amazing life.
