This book is not about what makes something beautiful or even why it may be beautiful. Beauty, as is often expressed, is in "the eye of the Beholder." Beauty is just a word that describes a quality we perceive. It doesn't have any intrinsic value. It is simply something we can recognize, a value given to an experience. It is a feeling, a response to our senses, our inner sensitivities. It calls upon all our emotions, our reactions to sight, taste, sound, smell, temperature, light, and darkness...and so much more. We might do well to ask if a blind or deaf person can appreciate beauty. Perhaps how we explore and understand this vast array of experiences and options will help answer the question: What is beauty?
