WHAT KHUFU BURIED

At Giza, every stone has a destination and every labor gang has a ration account. So when the numbers reveal a crew assigned to a project that does not exist, royal scribe Meryka is ordered to make the discrepancy disappear. Instead, he follows it beneath the foundation of Khufu's rising pyramid. There, in a chamber cut into older bedrock, a small circle of priests, physicians, engineers, and royal officials guards an object no tool can mark and no scribe can name. It does not speak.
