Some wounds don't disappear when you grow up. >What They Left Behind is a collection about the aftermath of being shaped by the people who were supposed to make you feel safe. It explores childhood wounds, complicated family relationships, motherhood, love, grief, identity and the long process of learning that surviving what happened to you does not mean you have to become what hurt you. These poems live in the space between what was lost and what remains. They are about being silenced and learning to speak anyway. About grieving the love you should never have had to beg for. About becoming a mother while still carrying the child you once were. >And, ultimately, they are about becoming someone who can look at what was left behind and decide: It ends with me.
