When God's People Sing: 50 Days of Faith, Worship, Service and Surrender

The hymns may be old, but the truths they proclaim are timeless. For generations, Christians have sung their faith. They have sung at the cross. They have sung in times of prayer. They have sung when surrendering their lives to God.They have sung through trials and uncertainty. And they have sung with hope while looking toward their eternal home.In When God's People Sing: A 50-Day Hymn Devotional, Christian author, broadcaster, and speaker Mark Bixler invites readers on a fifty-day journey through the stories, Scriptures, and biblical truths behind another collection of treasured hymns of the Christian faith.Beginning at Calvary with "The Old Rugged Cross" and "At Calvary," the journey moves through songs of salvation, prayer, surrender, faith, perseverance, and ultimately the hope of heaven. Along the way, readers will encounter beloved hymns including "Blessed Assurance," "Sweet Hour of Prayer," "I Surrender All," "Nearer, My God, to Thee," "Higher Ground," "Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus," and "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder."Each day's devotional includes: - A Scripture reading- The story behind the hymn- A practical devotional thought- Questions for personal reflection- A closing prayerWhen God's People Sing is more than a collection of hymn histories. It is an invitation to slow down and rediscover the biblical messages contained within songs Christians have sung for generations. Some hymns may bring back memories of Sunday mornings long ago. Others may speak differently because of what you are walking through today. And some may introduce you to a song you have never known before. But every hymn ultimately points beyond the words and melody to the One who gives God's people a reason to sing: Jesus Christ.Whether you read one devotional each morning, use the book during your personal quiet time, or simply love the great hymns of the faith, When God's People Sing will encourage you to keep believing, keep trusting, keep worshiping, and keep following Jesus.Because the fifty days may eventually come to an end.But God's people will always have a reason to sing.
