When Television Brought Us Together: How Classic Shows of the Past Can Help Survive Present

When Television Brought Us Together celebrates the era in television that came of age with the Baby Boomer generation, and the shows that continue to attract new generations of fans. From Bewitched and The Brady Bunch to The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Waltons, plus soaps and superheroes, westerns and Saturday morning cartoons, this book brings back happy, shared memories that are a common thread weaved through our culture. But beyond the 50+ shows profiled, with selections of Best Episodes and memorable moments, When Television Brought Us Together also reflects on how the America we view through this window on our past has changed, and not for the better; another reason why so many of us prefer the shows from the past over those now streaming in a medium that no longer unites us. Join TV historian David Hofstede as he celebrates, with insight and humor, the greatest shows of the first TV generations, and how they can still inspire us to emulate the ideals and ethics they portray.
