White Throne and Black Bodies

White Throne and Black Bodies is a bold theological examination of the dangerous alliance between Christianity, white supremacy, and nationalist power in American life. Drawing from Scripture, Black liberation theology, and history, J. Matthew Wyatt exposes how the language of faith has too often been used to sanctify domination rather than proclaim liberation. From Herod's politics of fear to modern Christian nationalism, Wyatt traces a recurring pattern in which empire seeks sacred legitimacy and the church is tempted to confuse power with righteousness. Yet the gospel tells another story. The cross unmasks the violence of empire, and the resurrection declares that no throne is ultimate. Engaging voices such as James Cone, Willie James Jennings, and Kelly Brown Douglas, this book calls the church to repentance, courage, and renewed allegiance to Jesus Christ. Prophetic, timely, and deeply rooted in Christian hope, White Throne and Black Bodies invites readers to choose the Lamb over the throne.
