God created man and woman together in His image to fulfill His purpose for creation. They have different roles, responsibilities, and body structures, but they are of equal value before God. God gave to man the responsibility to lead, guide, and protect his wife and family. Unfortunately, Adam, the first man, ducked that responsibility and gave in to temptation in the garden of Eden, bringing sin into humanity and separation from God.Down through the generations, many men, with their stronger bodies, have focused on the privilege of leadership over the responsibility. These men were oppressive and sometimes abusive to the women in their lives. In the 1800s, Marxist ideology swept Western culture, with their teaching that everyone is to be identified as either an oppressor or an oppressed, saying those who are oppressed deserve greater privileges. Women began seeing themselves as oppressed and separate from men. They fought for women's rights, further separating themselves from men.The first woman was drawn from God's creation of mankind, to fill the role of helper, to work with man, to bring forth future generations from her body. As women identified as oppressed, they focused on rights and independence. The birth control pill formed a basis in their fight for independence. Sex was no longer seen as sacred to God. In focusing on their own freedom and self-fulfillment, women began competing with men in everything. They even sought to look like men, often wearing dark-colored trousers and suits in business meetings. As both men and women have moved away from God's instructions for their roles and responsibilities, they have each focused on their own independence, encouraging the culture to trust feelings over facts and truth, especially in the realm of sexuality. Amid the cultural confusion, what will it take for Christians to stand for righteousness and truth?
