Why Do We Celebrate Ostara?: A Fun, Educational, and Illustrated Holiday Book for Kids Curious Minds About the Spring Equinox Festival

Welcome the spring equinox with seeds, flowers, balanced light, and the excitement of a fresh beginning! Why are day and night almost equal in late March? What connects an old English month name, a nineteenth-century scholar, colorful eggs, and a modern Pagan festival? Why Do We Celebrate Ostara? helps young readers explore the science, history, and present-day traditions of the spring equinox. Ostara is the name many modern Pagans and Wiccans use for the spring equinox. The book carefully separates what historical sources tell us from later theories and modern customs. Here is what you will discover inside: - The Science of the Equinox: Learn how Earth's tilt creates a moment when day and night are nearly balanced and the sun rises almost exactly in the east. - An Honest Journey Through History: Discover what the monk Bede wrote about Eostre, how Jacob Grimm later proposed the name Ostara, and why scholars still debate the evidence. - A Modern Pagan Festival: Learn how Ostara became part of the eight-festival Wheel of the Year during the twentieth century. - Seeds and New Beginnings: Plant seeds, set intentions, open the windows for spring cleaning, and explore why caring for new growth requires patience and work. - Eggs, Flowers, and Balance: Discover decorated eggs, early greens, candles, feathers, honey cakes, daffodils, crocuses, and other symbols used in modern celebrations. - Visual Delight and Careful Facts: Enjoy beautiful, minimalist colorful illustrations filled with seedlings, spring flowers, eggs, bees, candles, gardens, and balanced sunlight.
