This essay is the result of my research, which aimed to understand why, in Brazil-the world's third-largest agricultural power-hunger and chronic undernutrition coexist alongside an abundance of agricultural production. The goal was to analyze existing data to shed new light on the coexistence of this contradictory pair. It consists of three articles. The first moves back and forth between theory and practice to reveal the contours of the social construction of hunger. The second examines the historical facts regarding the struggle undertaken by Brazilians to eradicate hunger in their country. The third explores an innovative program focused on small farmers, who, through this initiative, are finally taking on a fundamental role in the fight against hunger and malnutrition across society, within the social sphere of Brazilian agriculture. The aim of this essay is to demonstrate that the eradication of hunger depends essentially on political governance that respects the affected populations and on the protection of the ecosystems in which they live.
