The Normal Album is Will Wood's third studio album, released in 2020 on LP as a colored vinyl edition through Say-10 Records. This avant-pop and alternative punk record was produced by Jonathon Maisto, who also helmed Wood's debut album. The project was partly financed through a successful Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign that exceeded its goal within the first day, ultimately raising nearly twenty-eight thousand dollars. Wood approached the album with a new artistic mindset, citing maturity and an expanded skillset as driving factors in his creative process. The songs were primarily composed on piano before receiving orchestral adaptations from his band members, creating a sophisticated sound that blends Americana and doo-wop influences with contemporary arrangements. The Normal Album marked a significant turning point in Wood's career, becoming his first major breakthrough into wider recognition. The record showcases strategically restrained yet highly emotive vocals paired with densely packed lyrics rich in scientific and philosophical references. Wood cited Green Day as his primary melodic influence while developing the project. The album's themes center on conformity and personal exploration, reflecting Wood's journey through treating Bipolar II disorder beginning in 2016. The cover artwork features Wood in a muted aesthetic, photographed by Angelica Pasquali at a white house with black shutters, his eyes digitally enlarged for artistic effect.
