Bol The book presents the results of an investigation into the economic and social impact of wind energy production in the state of Rio Grande do Norte/Brazil, and especially in the producing municipalities. The research is based on the hypothesis that the implementation of wind farms in the state has so far not shown satisfactory results in the socio-economic sphere for the producing municipalities. Although it does contribute to the growth of the state's tax revenues and to progress in electricity generation. It has been observed that a high-tech activity can frustrate expectations regarding technological transfer and real socio-economic progress. This was seen through an analogy between the implementation of wind farms and theories about economic enclaves in a given territory, as well as the typologies of Latin American economies presented by Celso Furtado. Through interviews and visits to four municipalities that produce wind energy, it was noted that the socio-economic development expected for the municipalities has not manifested itself in a manner consistent with the discourse of the state and the energy generating companies.
