A prince recovering from a very bad experience (he was a frog for a while) sets out to make things right with a princess who mistakenly believes she caused his problems. Her castle is the second one on his route. First, he has a stop to make in another kingdom. Its ruler holds funds owed to the world's oldest wizard for solving a serious dragon problem. The prince offered to pick them up for the wizard, who is a friend. This castle is easy to find; this king is not. The prince is accompanied on his quest by Sir David, a hollow knight who started out in near-life as a clock, and by a boy who has much to figure out about lots of things. They are soon joined by a will o'the wisp who gives the hollow knight an upgrade. They are joined along the way by a girl who wants to be a witch and who hopes to find a witch who can train her. They face delays and obstacles, including one thrown up by an eccentric who makes things no one has ever thought of before. Things that no one else may want. Other characters encountered along the way include a travel with troll trouble, a man who lost an eye but can now see the future, a black bird who also has things to say and a unicorn in training. The princess, when the prince finally reaches her, is in seclusion. The hardest task of all, he finds, is breaking her out of it. Oh, there is a dragon lurking in the background. It joins the girl in aiding the prince as he tries to solve this problem.
