Presented in honor of the distinguished teacher and scholar, Wolfgang F. Michael of the Department of Germanic Languages at the University of Texas at Austin, this volume contains essays in both English and German on the language, literature and culture of the German-speaking world. The literary contributions range from Walther von der Vogelweide to Guenter Kunert, with particular concentration on the Middle Ages and Renaissance. The wide range of topics and periods reflects the breadth and depth of Professor Michael's own academic endeavor. Contributors to the volume include both prominent and rising scholars and teachers from the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom.
