Xenophrys brachykolos (common name:Short-legged horned toad; Synonym:Megophrys minor brachykolos) is a native species in Hong Kong. It was first discovered in the Peak, Hong Kong. Its natural habitats are temperate forests, rivers, and intermittent rivers. It is threatened by habitat loss. A distinction between frogs and toads, though common in popular culture, is not made in taxonomy, where toads are spread across families Bufonidae, Bombinatoridae, Discoglossidae, Pelobatidae, Rhinophrynidae, Scaphiopodidae, and Microhylidae. The characteristic features of toads are a result of convergent adaptation to dry habitats.
