Despite its relatively young history, the short narrative, or afsaana, is one of the most important literary subgenres in Urdu literature. Wajida Tabassum was a well-known and popular short story writer of her time. The well-known literary and film journal "Shama" used to publish incisive and contentious short stories about prostitutes and the conditions of the red light areas. According to Wajida Tabassum, the most persecuted members of our society are prostitutes. How many authors have written before me on this immensely unpleasant, heated, and cutting subject? It is peculiar that writing about a woman by a male is not viewed as offensive. Additionally, a woman is referred to as a "pornographer" if she writes about prostitutes or brothels.
