Recurring and chronic pain causes suffering and fear, interferes with ones capability to experience and perceive, and affects the overall quality of life. The treatment of pain patients demands an interdisciplinary approach, as it has been proven that no single existing treatment method adequately addresses the phenomenon of pain on its own. This volume demonstrates how music therapy can contribute to this approach by focusing on three main areas: theoretical scientific foundations of clinical relevance and musical-imaginative pain therapy; examples of practical experiences in the treatment of chronic pain patients (oncology and rheumatism); clinical research in the form of controlled studies of effectiveness and the integration of music therapy into interdisciplinary treatment concepts.
