Business Dynamics Review of Egypt

This report, part of the Egypt Country Programme (ECP), offers a new, cutting-edge analysis of young firms, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurship in Egypt supporting policy recommendations to foster business and job creation. The Egyptian National Structural Reforms Program aimed to enhance the private sector's role in the economy, improve job creation and, more generally, the business environment. Leveraging Egypt's inclusion in the OECD DynEmp database, the report compares Egypt's business dynamics with those of OECD countries, providing a robust evidence base for policy development. It also reviews the availability and quality of data used to study business dynamics in Egypt, identifying key gaps and opportunities for improvement. Recommendations include investing in data for business dynamics, speeding up the process of issuing licences, approvals and permits, supporting the scale-up of young firms, enhancing the role of SMEs and fostering women's entrepreneurship. These steps are essential to support evidence-based policymaking and unlock the full potential of Egypt's entrepreneurial ecosystem.
