Productivity Review of Egypt

This report leverages Egypt's inclusion in the OECD MultiProd database to assess the manufacturing sector's productivity performance in comparison with OECD countries. It provides actionable policy recommendations to boost productivity. The Egyptian government prioritised manufacturing in its National Structural Reform Programme, launched in 2021. This report analyses the key drivers of productivity growth in Egypt, including trade integration and innovation capacity. It identifies strategic opportunities to enhance manufacturing competitiveness, expand exports, and foster innovation-led growth. The report also provides targeted policy recommendations to strengthen productivity-enhancing policies and improve coordination among productivity research and policymaking. Finally, it emphasises the importance of improving Egypt's business microdata infrastructure to support evidence-based policy making. These insights aim to guide policymakers in unlocking the full potential of Egypt's manufacturing sector.
