Get step-by-step, expert guidance on fundamental procedures in neurosurgery - both in print and on video. Core Techniques in Operative Neurosurgery, 2nd Edition, provides the tools needed to hone existing surgical skills and learn new techniques, helping you minimize risk and achieve optimal outcomes for every procedure. Led by Dr. Rahul Jandial, this concise reference offers quick access to the expertise and experience of the world's leading authorities in the field of neurosurgery. Presents consistent, easy-to-follow chapters that cover the indications and contraindications, pitfalls, tips and tricks from the experts, and more for each procedure. Covers minimally invasive spine techniques such as Thoracic Corpectomy and Minimally Invasive Direct Lateral Transpsoas Interbody Fusion. Includes new chapters on Microvascular Decompression and Brachial Plexus Injury Nerve Grafting and Transfers. Features procedural videos that summarize the key steps in neurosurgery. Expert ConsultT eBook version included with purchase. This enhanced eBook experience allows you to search all of the text, figures, and references from the book on a variety of devices. Review all chapters for consistency - should all be appropriate for lower level trainees Ensure all chapters meet the following criteria: Is there clear description + picture of the anatomy being approached (+ possibly ct/mri images typical of said pathology) Is there a clear picture showing incision in relation to overall anatomy (head or spine) - eg, Chapter 6 - how can the reader find the sinuses? Is there adequate labeling of key anatomical structures or landmarks on pictures? Images - ensure quality of intra-op photos is good. Images are more important than the text - text should be pithy, in general more illustrations and less text would be welcome (eg, Occipital craniotomy - too much text, not enough illustrations) Increase the number of radiological images - this is very important as most of the approach planning comes from reviewing the radiology first and this can be difficult for juniors Ensure consistent voice - sometimes first person plural is used which is not appropriate More cross-referencing - we need to ask editors to do this as they are the ones who have overview of the entire text (example: Vein of Labbe - nice image included in Chapter 4, but this is also mentioned elsewhere in the text without the helpful figure) Layout: Organization of pages with pictures and descriptions alongside one another - for Elsevier to come up with a solution prior to briefing - consider using Operative Techniques layout or 2-column layout - OR just see if we can use the margins more effectively for the figures (but not the text) - this way the figures could appear next to the text that mentions the figure, and not several pages further on. Consider speaking to Taylor Ball if we wanted to look into using the OT page design (probably not needed). And perhaps get layout page dummies added to the development process. Colour code sections for improved navigation Add more video - especially lower level video. The videos we have are not didactic. They show off the skill of the author, but are not very helpful for a beginner looking to learn. For the cover, include all types of illustrations included in the text: lineart, intraoperative and positioning HTs, and imaging to fully showcase the contents of the text. At the moment the cover only shows artworks with plain colours and fonts - gives the impression that it the content is very elementary, which doesn't gel with the price tag of over $300 (at the moment)
