Diseases of the Fetus and Newborn

This expanded edition reflects the advances in pathology, radiology and genetics since the publication of the first edition in 1989. This work is divided into six sections. Section 1 reviews the mechanisms and pathogenesis of antenatal diseases and disorders. Section 2 deals with prenatal pathology and conditions peculiar to early life, including stillbirths, recurrent abortions, iatrogenic and forensic situations. Section 3 discusses systemic and special pathology. Section 4 covers imaging of the embryo, foetus and newborn, including biometry, biophysical profiles, ultrasound and echocardiography. It pays particular attention to identifying the foetus at risk, and to the value and accuracy of antenatal ultrasound screening.
