Handbook on University Teaching and Pedagogy: For French-speaking Sub-Saharan Africa

This handbook is intended for teachers, parents of students, and institutions responsible for universities in French-speaking Sub-Saharan Africa (UANF). It addresses essential topics that are useful for higher education instructors, enabling them to refresh their theoretical knowledge. On a practical level, particular emphasis has been placed on the development of pedagogical (operational) objectives and, above all, on the assessment of learning, which must be more competency-based. The document also outlines the steps for identifying, implementing, and monitoring the quality of educational programs at UANFs, as well as the vital role that a central, autonomous body must play in validating university programs and ensuring their monitoring, evaluation, and quality of implementation. Particular emphasis has been placed on the Competency-Based Approach (CBA), identified as the most promising option for reversing the current trend marked by massive graduate unemployment. Finally, the manual underscores the need for a financial reorganization that better supports the practical implementation of competency-centered pedagogy in UANFs.
