Laboratory Medicine and Pathology in Francophone Africa: Urgency for Reform Structuring. the Case of DRC

Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa faces a major challenge in the field of laboratory medicine. Countries in this region are characterized by a shortage of human resources and quality infrastructure, which compromises the quality of healthcare provided to the population. The situation is particularly worrying in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where studies are highly politicized and corruption is rampant. In this context, training specialists in pathology and laboratory medicine is crucial for improvement. However, Francophone Sub-Saharan countries, especially the DRC, lag behind Anglophone countries, notably those in the Commonwealth, which have established high-quality accreditation systems and infrastructures. This book compares the training of pathology and laboratory medicine specialists in Anglophone and Francophone Sub-Saharan countries, highlighting the gaps and challenges faced by Francophone nations.
