Narratives of experience in the context changing leisure activities: A qualitative empirical study Year 6

Children's leisure activities are undergoing socially driven change. Modernisation over recent decades has transformed not only the physical environment and the traditional image of the family, but also the way children spend their free time. Children's activities are increasingly taking place in homes and children's bedrooms. Furthermore, it is consistently observed in school settings that children's storytelling skills are becoming less and less developed. Particularly when it comes to learning to write and the narrative genre of 'experience stories', it is striking that pupils are finding it increasingly difficult to identify an experience they have had that they can recount (in writing). Fostering pupils' storytelling skills is particularly important for the professional training of German teachers. In their professional practice, it is precisely this support for pupils that is of great significance time and again.
