Bol The sacred leaves of Candomblé - the two hundred and fifty-eight ewé of the Jêje-Nagô terreiros of Bahia, in one working book.Every leaf is given with its Bahian, Yorùbá and English names and what the name means; its botanical identity, corrected to the current floras; the Orixá who owns it; its element and gender in the classification the houses use; a plain account of what the leaf is for in the terreiro and what the folk medicine knows of it; and, where the same species is found there, its place in the Yorùbá record of Ifẹ̀ and among the 101 leaves of the Lucumí cuarto de santo. Photographs accompany most entries; three indexes - by Orixá, by element, by botanical name - make the book usable at the gate of the forest.Written by a Babalawo and Oluwo Osain for practitioners of Candomblé, Ifá and the diaspora traditions, scholars of Afro-Brazilian religion, and anyone who wants to know which leaf, whose leaf, and what kind of work it is for.Part of the Nubala Ifá Library.
