The red-bellied monkey (Cercopithecus erythrogaster erythrogaster Gray), an endangered subspecies endemic to the Dahomey Gap, has been very little documented in Togo. To determine its spatial distribution, as well as the nature and extent of the threats it faces within the Togodo Protected Areas Complex, field surveys and foot-based explorations were conducted in six areas corresponding to the six surrounding villages and in the sacred forest of Godjinmé, located approximately 9 km south of the complex. The number of monkeys identified, along with their geographic coordinates, activities at the time of observation, observation distance, and other relevant information, were recorded on a data sheet. A total of 99 individuals were counted within the complex and 5 in the sacred forest of Godjinmé. However, numerous pressures threaten the survival of these non-human primate populations. These include poaching, as well as the destruction and disruption of their habitats due to agriculture, transhumance, and logging.
