Social Coaching

This thesis examines the question of what skills a person working in the field of social coaching should possess. Drawing on written interviews, the research explores whether the use of social coaching has brought about changes within the school system or youth welfare services. Furthermore, the development and progression of social coaching have been documented, and the research and development processes summarised. In the theoretical section of the thesis, the development of social coaching, the necessary competencies and the scope of this new field of practice are examined in greater detail, and a requirements profile is drawn up. Particular emphasis is placed on the key competencies of the coach. To this end, the fundamental professional, social, personal and methodological competencies are defined, and the necessary skills and abilities are described. The empirical section concludes with a discussion of potential areas of tension and an outlook that addresses not only the practical implications but also further academic research.
