Bol Partner As a child, I was naturally curious. Always wanting to know, why? What? Where? When? How? Natural curiousity was one of the driving motives that drew me towards mathematics and science, and hence a fledgling career in engineering. Engineering, by default, leads one to become inquisitive to seek solutions to complex problems. Thus, as a professional engineer, it seemed only right and proper that I should seek scientific answers and explanantions to the somewhat less obvious questions that life seemed to pose. even from an early age it was difficult for me to accept what I was told unless it had foundation in fact and was provable to my satisfaction. Perhaps it was just stubbornness on my part, but as i grew up it struck me how dogmatic organised religion seemed to be, and that as a freethinking person, to accept the imposition of dogma as fact could not be right. Thus my quest began as a deep and impenetrable yearning to know the meaning of life. Why were we born? Why did we die? What happened after we died? Why did we need religion? And a thousand other such questions. In 1984, at the age of 23, I left home to find my pathway and savour the freedom of decision of mind, body and spirit that I yearned for. Within days of starting in the design office if a company in Bedforshire, I met the most curious and enigmatic man. Charming, affable and happy, and willing to talk about the strange book he was reading during his lunch break. With so many questions to ask, and seeking so many answers, might this man be able to assist me in my quest? In short, the answer was a resounding yes. Like all great teachers he showed boundless enthusiasm and patience, but most importantly, he taught me to investigate, research, and think for myself and, in so doing, he freed the shackles of my mind! And the mysterious man in question? Need you ask? Many of us are lucky enough to meet one person during a lifetime that has the vision and wisdom to change the way we think forever, and hence change our lives for the better. For me, that person, a fellow engineer and thinker, is the author of this book. As complex as our lives may appear, the answer to the question, 'What is the meaning and purpose of life?' is not as overwhelming as it might seem. The knowledge this book will provide is based on a lifetime of learing by the author. It covers the reality of material life, and the experiences, good, bad, and indifferent of a multitude of people from all walks of life. The common denominator that unites these individuals is a desire, often through great personal hardship and adversity, to seek answers to life's seemingly unfathomable questions. I put it to you that this book offers no finer place to start that journey yourself. Whether you are a novice, or ardent seeker of truth, you will experience the full gambit of emotions. But above all, it is offered to you in the spirit of love and humility so that you can take the first steps on the pathway to understanding The meaning and Purpose of Life.
